We are proposing to perform a major survey of atrial fibrillation triggers from the patient perspective. Every sufferer of atrial fibrillation experiences different triggering mechanisms. It is widely known that factors like stress, alcohol and certain foods can trigger episodes of AF. Many AF episodes occur without apparent trigger events - what we would like to do is try and identify the triggers and see what common factors there are. Our hope is to identify common triggers so that AF sufferers can make decisions about their lifestyle and eating habits which will help to minimise the frequency and severity of episodes of AF.
We understand that each individual has a unique experience of causative factors which will start an episode of fibrillation. Many people do not link their lifestyle and particularly their food and medication intake with the causes of fibrillation but it is known that certain substances and events will trigger an episode of fibrillation.
Many people are not even aware of their irregular heartbeat.
If you would like to take part in this survey please send the following information to us and we will email the complete survey form to you. The results of the survey will be sent to each participant complete with a summary of the results.
Please note that this survey is strictly limited to people who suffer from AF or are being treated for AF. The results will be evaluated using strict scientific methodology and only provided to survey participants.
