Chronic cervicitis is a common disease and has been variously estimated to be present in 20-40% of women1,2. Patients may present with excessive vaginal discharge, postcoital bleeding,low backache or pain in lower abdomen and deep seated dyspareunia while at other times it may remain asymptomatic. Various organisms which cause chronic cervicitis popularly known as mucopurulent cervicitis are sexually transmitted and their incidence has been varyingly reported in different studies. Chlamydia (8-59%)1,3, Ureaplasma urealyticum (9-33%)2,3, mycoplasma (35%)2, Neisseria gonorrhoeae (1.2-7%)2,3, herpes simplex (5%)1 are the organisms to name a few.
