Royal Darwin Hospital is the main (only) referral hospital in the Northern Territory and as such is unique in many ways. The area is geographically remote from all other referral centres being approximately 3000 km by air from the nearest major Australian Hospital. The Northern Territory comprises approximately 23% of the Australian continent and is a sparsly populated (less than 200,000 people), geographically diverse part of the world.

The Pathology Department is multidisciplinary and covers the areas of Biochemistry, Haematology, Blood Transfusion (Immunohaematology), Serology, Microbiology, Histopathology and Cytology. The laboratory offers services to the hospital and acts as the referral laboratory for the rest of the Northern Territory.

The prime clients include the Menzies School of Health Research which has a large new laboratory facility on campus, the Air Medical Service (Flying Doctor), Gove District Hospital, Katherine Hospital, Tennant Creek Hospital, Alice Springs Hospital, the THS Centre for Communicable Diseases and all other Public Health divisions of Territory Health Services.

This page has been put together to provide a resource for Medical and Biomedical Professionals. The majority of the site is made up of links only pages, however, downloadable pathology files are now being added and methods and protocols in some areas.

The addition of Pathlink Email now provides a valuable contact tool for medical scientists and pathologists.
The Hoslink Newsletter has been added in April 2001 and contributions are sought from contributors for inclusion in the newsletter.
